Common questions
- Is this actually personalized, or just a template?
- Actually personalized. We start with the photo you upload and generate an original illustration in your chosen style — watercolor, painterly, vintage, modern, and more. No template, no name-swap.
- What do you write in a Christmas card to a friend?
- Skip 'Wishing you a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year.' Specific. A line about the year you shared (even if you barely saw each other), a memory from a Christmas past, the thing you keep meaning to text. Friends know the difference between a real card and a polite one. Stuck? Tap AI Message.
- When should I send Christmas cards to be sure they arrive in time?
- Order by December 15 for delivery before December 25 inside the US. USPS first-class is typically 3-5 business days through normal weeks, but late December is the busiest mail period of the year — give an extra cushion. For international, order by December 5.
- Can I send the same card to multiple people?
- Yes. For family Christmas cards going to your entire list, you upload the photo once, customize the message once, and we mail individual cards to each recipient on your address list. No copying-and-pasting.
- How does this differ from a photo Christmas card from Shutterfly or Minted?
- Shutterfly and Minted print your photo directly on the card. Pigeon Post takes your photo and renders it as a custom illustration — watercolor, painterly, modern, whatever you pick. The card looks hand-painted, not photographed. On a mantel of forty Christmas cards, the illustrated one stands out.
- What's the QR code on the card?
- Optional — record a 15-second voice or video message. We print a QR code on the inside of the card. The recipient scans it with their phone and your message plays. For Christmas cards specifically, this is the part that gets saved — voice memories from family Christmas cards become something kids and grandkids re-watch years later.
- How much does a card cost?
- $19.99/year subscription, then $1.78 per card sent — everything included (custom illustration, envelope, stamp, USPS mailing). A retail Christmas card runs roughly $5-9 all-in (more for premium boxed sets). At $1.78 per card, sending 30 family Christmas cards costs about $53 — less than a single box of premium Christmas cards. Your first card is free.
- Can I send the card without subscribing?
- Yes — your first card is free, no subscription required. After that, the $19.99/year membership unlocks unlimited sends at $1.78 each. For Christmas card senders specifically, the math always pencils on the subscription.
